butterflyCut is a laptop music duo comprised of Tom Hall (laptop, bass guitar) and Sam Hayden (laptop). Sam and Tom's backgrounds are in contemporary classical music composition, but both have moved towards electronic music in recent years. The collaborative musical result is yet to be formally described by outside parties.
butterflyCut's approach to live music-making encompasses technical as well as musical collaboration. This is achieved by creative rehearsal and planning using real-time synthesis software on linked computers. In this way each performer is able to influence some of the musical output of the other's software, and so is able to work autonomously but interconnectedly.
butterflyCut first performed at the 2005 London placard headphone festival. Sam Hayden was interviewed by Cecilia Wee and butterlyCut's music played on Resonance FM's New Art on Mondays 2005-10-17.
